The Development of the Turkish Cypriot Community Association

Since its inception in 1976, the Turkish Cypriot Community Association (TCCA) has been at the forefront serving the Turkish Cypriot diaspora in the United Kingdom through its various projects. During the first few years of its humble beginning, London already had a well-established Turkish Cypriot community who even then had become fully integrated within the British workforce - the establishment of the community centre in Hackney 117 Green Lanes was thus a natural step forward.

In 1983, TCCA gave the Turkish Cypriot community a voice through the first UK based Turkish-language newspaper "Toplum Postasi," which means 'Community Post' in Turkish.  What began as a short newspaper has developed and expanded over the years into a bilingual newspaper serving both the first, second and third generations of Turkish Cypriots in the UK, but also embracing recent new Turkish and Kurdish immigrants from Turkey.

During the late 1980s, the TCCA initiated a highly successful Information and Advice Project and following that many other smaller one off projects such as a Toy Library and MP surgery. By the 1990s, the TCCA began its most successful project to date, the Homecare Project serving the needs of the most disadvantaged within our community. In the year 2000, the TCCA successfully tendered and acquired current premises of 628 Green Lanes increasing the number of its buildings and thus its community inspired activities.

The second premises have allowed the TCCA the space and resources necessary to develop new innovative projects to  help those in needs in our community.
